Common Spider Species
Redback
- Size – 1cm to 1.5cm in length
- Colour – Shiny black with a distinctive red stripe on its abdomen.
- Danger – Redback spiders are venomous, and their bites are dangerous to humans.
Daddy Long-legs
- Size – Up to 5cm in length
- Colour – Typically pale yellowish-gray to light brown
- Danger – While they do possess venom, their fangs are too small to pierce human skin.
Sydney Funnel-web
- Size – Males 1.5-3.5cm Females 1-2cm
- Colour – Black, but can also be dark brown, blue-black, or plum-coloured.
- Danger – The Sydney funnel-web spider is one of the most venomous spiders.
Garden Orb Weaver
- Size – Leg spans up to 10 cm.
- Colour – Brightly coloured, with variations of yellow, green, black, and white.
- Danger – Not considered dangerous to humans, as their venom is not harmful to humans.
Black House
- Size – 10-18mm.
- Colour – dark brown to black, and they have a somewhat glossy appearance
- Danger – Venomous, but their bite is not considered to be life-threatening.
White Tailed Spider
- Size – 10-18mm.
- Colour – dark brown to black, with a distinctive white or gray spot at the tip of their abdomen
- Danger – Known to bite and their venom can cause local pain, swelling, and redness.
Huntsman
- Size – Leg spans up to 15 cm.
- Colour – gray, and they often have markings or patterns on their body.
- Danger – Not aggressive towards humans, they can be territorial and may bite.
